New studies by Washington State University and Harvard Medical School have found that drinking wine before bed can have a positive impact on your mission to lose weight. The experiments proved that a whole two glasses of the good stuff drank before hitting the hay at night will help you slim down but we're not too sure just how acceptable this is in practice - without being labelled a low-key alcoholic, that is.
But what's the science behind it? I hear you cry. Resveratrol in grapes converts white fat into beige fat which is the scientific process involved in burning calories, according to WSU. But while resveratrol is present in grapes - which are fermented to make wine - fresh blueberries and strawberries also contain high levels of the fat-burner and I feel like binging on fresh fruit is a much more socially-acceptable and friendly way to lose weight than necking wine at night.
Additionally, the Harvard study, which looked at 20,000 women over 13 years, found those who drank two glasses of wine every day were 70 percent less likely to be overweight.
The scientists concluded evening time is the optimum time to tipple as it means you'll avoid snacking - as you're throwing wine, which suppresses your appetite, down your neck instead - and it'll chill you out which will help you fall asleep faster. Researchers recommend red wine over white or rose as it contains the most antioxidants.
