Life isn't easy and we all lose sight of ourselves at some point, but whether it's a break-up or a break-down that's been holding you back from being the best that you can be, now's the time to get ahead and move forward with your life. Here's why putting yourself first is the best thing you'll ever do.
You can make your own way
You're a leader not a follower. Of course you'll listen to the advice of people around you but you don't need validation from them. You've got this all on your own.
You don’t have to answer to anyone
If you wanna stay in all evening and dance around your room in reindeer pjs then hell, that's really nobody's business. Whatever makes you happy, do it and don't look back. Unless it's Ryan Gosling - he can always demand answers.
You’ll be happier
Missed opportunities? Shoulda, woulda, coulda? Fear of missing out? Nope not here, you're too busy doing everything you want to do and it feels frigging awesome.
You're strong and independent
You can stand up on your own two feet and feel confident enough to make decisions without someone there to hold your hand. Needy just isn't your style.
You’ll see things differently
Mondays are just like any other day of the week so when you really think about it why should they suck? It’s about changing your perspective. It's not Mondays that suck, it's your attitude.
It’s basically self-improvement
Getting a gym membership, stretching yourself at work, it all counts for building yourself up to be a better, more rounded version of yourself and that my friend should always be a priority.
You never lose sight of your identity
When you're busy running round trying to please other people 24/7, your own emotional needs tend to end up right at the bottom of the pile.
But when you make time to listen to your own thoughts, consider your goals, your challenges and your aspirations you'll be much more equipped to deal with everyone else's dramas.
It's not about sacrificing your own happiness for others it's about being 'self-full'. You need that time to re-centre yourself, you deserve it!
Being on your own doesn't scare you
Once you've learnt to love your own company, that's when you're ready to find someone worth sharing that time with sister!
You won't care what others think
When you're comfortable with doing things your way and living life on your terms you really couldn't give a hoot what other people have to say about it. Please, judge away!
You'll surprise yourself
Being 'selfish' isn't always the easiest decision to make but it’s one that will lead you to your ultimate happiness and help you reach goals you never even knew you had.
You'll have more get up and go
Whether it's small scale or as big as deciding to travel the world, your energy will be contagious and everyone's gonna want a slice.
You won't have any regrets
You haven't got time for coasting or settling, you're too in love with living life remember? Everything else that comes after, that's just a bonus.
It feels awesome
Taking care of yourself and being the source of your own happiness? There’s no better feeling than that. Live. It. Up.
You'll learn to embrace change
Most people shudder at the thought of change but when it comes down to it, what's so scary? Change = progress and progress gets results. Go get 'em.
You set your own standards
When you stop measuring your fulfilment against other people's expectations that's when you'll stop trying to be someone you're not.
There's no faster way to lose control of your own life than letting other people distract you from your own path. This is the perfect excuse to put your fingers in your ears and say la-la-la #majorlysatisfying
It's an achievement
Putting yourself first is just like any other relationship, it need serious work. It needs hours of your time, patience, commitment and determination but in the end you have a happy, fulfilled life to show for it and that's something to smile about.
And because we all love a quote, here's a particularly apt one to wrap up with: “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls” Joseph Campbell.
