1. Joni Mitchell is the star of Saint Laurent’s ‘Music Project’.
Proving that models should never be confined by age, the 71 year old, legendary singer and songwriter Joni Mitchell looks amazing in the Saint Laurent campaign. Rocking a wide-brimmed hat, a folk tunic and guitar in hand, Mitchell proves that older women are having a serious moment in fashion.
2. The man himself , Yves Saint Laurent, has left the world with some pretty amazing quotes.
“Fashions fade, style is eternal.”
“Over the years I have learned that which is important in a dress, is the woman who is wearing it.”
“It pains me physically to see a woman victimized, rendered pathetic, by fashion.”
“The most beautiful makeup for a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy.”
3. The brand introduced the trouser suit for women.
The brand introduced the first tuxedo for women, the ‘Le Smoking’ suit. In an era where it was still controversial for women to wear trousers in public (I know we can’t believe it either) the brand created the androgynous look that was a whole new defiant style. Surely this is enough reason to love the brand.
4. The man behind the brand, Yves Saint Laurent, basically made Naomi Campbell.
Ok maybe not made, but he got her, her first Vogue cover. Naomi as been quoted saying, “My first Vogue cover ever was because of this man, because when I said to him ‘Yves, they won’t give me a French Vogue cover, they won’t put a black girl on the cover’ and he was like ‘I’ll take care of that,’ and he did.”
Oh to have friends in high places.
5. Emma Watson and Angeline Jolie rock the Saint Laurent Trouser suit.
We only have the brand to thank for these red carpet looks. Both dressed in Saint Laurent suits, Angelina and Emma looked SO chic.
A look we are still trying to successfully copy.
6. The brand mixes fashion with rock ‘n’ roll.
It doesn’t get much cooler than rock ‘n’ roll and Saint Laurent know just how to make fashion and music the perfect paring, with Daft Punk, Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love appearing in past campaigns.
7. Bianca Jagger’s wedding dress ‘dress’ was made by Saint Laurent.
Rita Ora step back, you were not the first to wear a white suit, without the bra.
A pregnant Bianca wore a white maxi skirt and a Yves Saint Laurent, Le Smoking jacket , without the shirt on her wedding day.
We wonder what BBC viewers would have said about that.
8.Saint Laurent made us want to be Cara so bad.
The advert for YSL’s Babydoll mascara, made us wish we were Cara, or at least go partying with her. Just one night in Shoreditch, that’s all we're asking for.
9. This look from the Spring/Summer 2015 colloection.
I mean look at it. It’s fashion perfection.
10. Yves Saint Laurent inspired this Dolce & Gabbana ad.
After posing nude for the release of his first male perfume in 1971 , Dolce and Gabana paid homage with this remake. Thank you Mr Yves.
