How wrong can mixing a drink with three ingredients really go? Turns out very. Knowing how to make a Negroni isn't like learning how to say no to 'just one more drink' - that's a certain skill that's almost impossible to master. But despite the lack of ingredients, there are a few KEY things you need to know to making it right. We got the expert in...

On the surface there might not seem like a lot to get to grips with with a Negroni but Sebastian Hamilton-Mudge, International Brand Ambassador for Beefeater Gin, says there are a few things you need to remember.

The easy way to make a Negroni it is just stir it all up in a glass with a load of ice but Sebastian says the trick is to get the spirits to their optimum dilution point in a separate glass before pouring it into the one you'll be drinking from. AND, most importantly, get the measurements right - the balance is very important.

Sebastian says: "With only a quick stir and a few slices of orange you'll find a Negroni can be quite aggressive when you get it, then it will become perfect once it dilutes."

His next tip - use a hella large piece of ice in your final glass. This will make sure the negroni will stay cold but not overly diluted by ice. Then balance out with a couple of slices of orange to compliment the bitterness of the Campari.

What do you get? Perfection.

What you need:

  • 20ml Beefeater Gin
  • 20ml Campari
  • 20ml Martini Rosso
  • 2 Orange Slices to garnish & a twist if you like (but then throw the twist away after spraying the oils. You don’t need twist and slices in same glass!)
