Screw the scales, cancel the calories, we're about to supersize on our fave American puddings...
1. Lemon Meringue Pie
Someone out there in the US of A is responsible for turning us all into utter Lemon Meringue Pie addicts. The winning combination of zesty lemon filling, crumbly shortcrust pastry and light meringue means we can NEVER say no to a slice.
2. Key Lime Pie
Key Lime Pie is a total American classic. A (buttery) biscuit base, a fluffy lime mouse, lime sauce and caramelised lime sprinkles? And now available in a cheesecake version at ASDA? Just when we thought things couldn't get any better!
3. Pumpkin Pie
A symbol of Halloween, Autumn Harvest and happiness; warm pumpkin pie is always guaranteed to please. And it definitely gets bonus points for creative use of a vegetable.
4. Waffles
Waffles are mostly holes right? And how can there be calories in holes? There just can't. That's why we're obsessed with another great American delicacy - the dessert waffle. It might be big in Europe too, but you can guarantee, in America the waffle (with ice cream AND chocolate sauce) is definitely bigger.
5. Doughnuts
Can't type... drooling on ke -y b oarD.
6. Red Velvet Cake
These are SO good we seriously wouldn't mind swapping our salaries for slices.
7. Whoopie Pie
We kinda wish that Whoopie Goldberg was the creator of this chocolate delicacy but alas, no. Even so, they've got a lot in common; Whoopie Pie is fabulous, sweet and full of character! A true national treasure.
8. Toffee Doughnut Cake
Homer Simpson pretty much drilled into us just how important doughnuts are to American culture, and Krispy Kreme made them a religion. Then ASDA turned the doughnut into a cake (!) and all of Britain rejoiced. Two of our fave treats together at last!
9. Maple & Pecan Tarts
Pecan Pie might be a quintessential American pud, but adding maple to the equation can only lead to GREAT things. Thank you America. Try the Chosen By You Maple and Pecan tarts at ASDA for a brand new addiction!
10. Ice Cream Milkshakes
Milkshakes used to consist of a dash of Strawberry Crusha back in the day, but thanks to America when we order milkshake these days we EXPECT dollops of ice cream, a squirt of Chantilly and chocolate sauce for a drink so thick it takes jaw work to fill your straw.
These are definitely making their way to our puddings table at the next BBQ. Bring on the sunshine!
