My first thought upon hearing this news was, "But why not Popeye's?" Then I realized this isn't about me and my incredible taste, but rather, about a woman with a broken heart. Clearly her distress rendered her inept of making sound decisions and this was a time for sympathy, not judgment. Let's gather in prayer, y'all.
The woman of the hour is 26-year-old Tan Shen from China. She sought refuge in a train station branch of KFC after her boyfriend cut ties with her. "I hadn't planned on staying there long, I just wanted some chicken wings," She said. "But once I got in there and started eating I decided I needed time to think." It's a plight that many of us can readily empathize with. Break ups are hard and food makes it so much better. Natch.
But what on earth would possess any rational human being to take up semi-permanent residence in a fried chicken spot? Avoidance. Tan didn't want to head back to her place because, "it was full of memories of him. So I stayed." I feel you on that one, girl.
In case you were wondering why the staff of KFC didn't give her the boot immediately, it's because it took them all of three days to notice she hadn't gone anywhere (they're clearly not an astute bunch). Once they became aware, they took a liking to her and watched as she drowned her sorrows in poultry and fries.
After the media started buzzing, Tan decided it was time to up and leave. But this wasn't before she gained a fan in one of the establishment's employees who said, "I guess we kind of miss her. It certainly made work more interesting."
Oh, I'm sure it did.
