Selena Gomez snuck off the radar back in January and checked herself into rehab. Reps for the singer now confirm that she spent two weeks in the Dawn at the Meadows facility in Arizona, but not for any drug or alcohol problems.
Her rep told PEOPLE magazine, “Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse.”
So why did she check herself into a facility? Selena reportedly needed some time to work over her emotions about a particular pop star bad boy.
Selena previously canceled her Asian and Australian “Stars Dance” concert tour, because she needed to spend her time getting back on track. In a statement, she said, "My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them. But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
It seems she is continuing on with that philosophy, going to rehab to spend time with therapists. A source told E! News that Selena checked herself in almost immediately after a picture surfaced of her and ex Justin Bieber riding Segways.
“The last straw was seeing them on the Segways,” the source says. “She needed to work on her emotional life. She needed to learn tools on how to deal with Justin and letting go of that relationship.”
Selena has decided to take the high road and ask for help with her problems, and bestie and fellow singer Demi Lovato could not be more proud and supportive.
The “Neon Lights” singer tweeted on Wednesday, “Weakness is living in denial. Only the strongest people ask for help.”
Selena herself has not commented on her time in rehab, but the starlet was out and about in time for the Sundance Film Festival, where she appeared to be having an absolute blast. She was even seen flirting with a mystery man at the festival.
Whatever her reasons for rehab, it seems Selena has come out even stronger and fiercer.
