We've all been feeling sorry for Miley Cyrus since it was announced she'd split from Liam Hemsworth last week.
While Liam, 23, quickly moved on to Mexican beauty Eiza Gonzalez, Miley seemed to struggle with single life and even broke down in tears during a performance.
But in a new interview, the 20-year-old has hinted that she was the one who ended her engagement to the Hunger Games actor.
Miley described the inspiration behind her new track, Drive, to Fashion magazine: "I wrote it while I was working on Valentine’s Day - emotionally it was such a hard time.
"It is about needing to leave someone but not really wanting to completely cut yourself off from the relationship. It’s a time when you want to leave but you can’t. It’s also about moving on."
It seems the constant rumours for months that Miley and Liam were drifting apart were true.
The couple got engaged back in June 2012 but as Miley slowly transformed herself from Disney cutie to queen of twerking, her relationship reportedly suffered.
It seemed to come to a head in September when Miley performed on stage with Robin Thicke at the VMAs.
Liam was notably absent from supporting his fiancée and it's reported her skimpy costumes, sexy dancing and grinding up against another man proved too much for him.
Even the actor's family were apparently warning him off Miley, as they worried she would ruin his reputation as an actor.
But Miley couldn't care less what everyone is saying about her new image, because she thinks it makes her stand out in the crowded music industry.
She continued to Fashion mag: "I feel like I’m in a different lane now. When it comes to critics, I have my blinders on and I don’t really feel like I have to compete with other pop artists.
"I never think, 'Oh this performance is going to make her look bad or out-shadow her' either.'
She added: "But if there is no competition, there would be no reason for any of us to show up to work.
"At an office, everyone is trying to be boss. Pop music is the same. What I wear adds a factor that other girls can’t compete with."
And as for that MTV VMAs performance, Miley insists she'd planned for it to be even more raunchy.
She said: "I was trying to slap Robin’s ass but no one saw it! Believe me! MTV edited so much.
"They cut almost everything I did. I’m proud of that performance. I feel like music is really stale right now.
"I could have guessed what a lot of artists would have done that night. The reaction to what I did has been insane. I think it was a breath of fresh air!
"For the people that don’t get it, you weren’t meant to."
Miaow.
