As the hype around who will play the new Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's Han Solo Star Wars Story film heats up, could Hail, Caesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich be the guy they're looking for? Would that it t'were so simple...

As soon as comedy kings Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed they were to direct a Han-heavy Star Wars spin off movie, there has been intense fan speculation into who could take the Solo crown. We at SoFeminine covered the potential leads in January and had our fingers tightly crossed for Scott Eastwood, but now that this new prospective Rebel fighter has come to the forefront, we wouldn't be too sad if he made it as Han instead...

The guy in question is Alden Ehrenreich. You may not recognise his name - it's a hard one to remember - but you'll probably recognise that gorgeous face from a few different places; most recently the Ethan and Joel comedy Hail, Caesar! in which he played the hopelessly incompetent but well-meaning Western film star Hobie Doyle. He's also had significant parts in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine and the thriller Stoker. But this role as the most charismatic man in cinematic history would propel Alden into the acting spotlight, doing for his career what JJ Abrams did with relatively unknowns Daisy Ridley and John Boyega.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord are the masterminds behind such films as The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and both Jump Street films. So it seems kind of fitting that they have chosen the wry and charming Han Solo as the subject of their next film. They said of the move: “This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

The film is said to focus on Han's days before he met with the Rebel Alliance and is slated for a May 2018 release. So you may have to wait a little longer to find out whether Alden's made the cut.
