At the Academy Awards last year, Chris Hemsworth's wife, Elsa Pataky, was ridiculed by the media for wearing a dress that showed off rather than disguised her pregnancy. George Kotsiopoulous from E! Fashion Police said, "the last thing I wanna do is rip on a pregnant woman, but it's a horrible dress on her. It doesn't look like a baby bump, it looks like a beer belly."
No one seemed to care that Elsa had a huge smile on her face as she walked the carpet. Instead they were irrationally shocked by what a pregnant belly actually looks like and the idea that a woman felt beautiful and sexy because she was with her child.
Well, thank goodness people like London-based photographer, Sandi Ford, are destigmatising the notion that pregnant women shouldn't be sexy. Throughout her latest work, she celebrates their attractive beauty.
In her studio in West London, she created a wonderful photo series titled "Beautiful Bumps" that highlights how creating life can make women feel more confident and attractive.
She spoke to Baby Centre UK about her motivation for the series:
“I hope to portray that pregnancy can be beautiful. For many years, pregnant ladies hid their bodies in baggy clothes and having it on display wasn’t something that was encouraged. I am glad that times have changed (perhaps thanks to Demi Moore’s infamous photo in the 90’s) and that it no longer has this stigma."
