Emma Fairbairn, from Wales, was recently involved in a car accident when she was six months pregnant. During her journey to the hospital, straight after the accident, the 21-year-old felt her unborn baby kicking but during her overnight observation, a midwife was unable to find her baby's heartbeat during.
According to a GoFundMe page set up by Emma's friend, she gave birth to a sleeping baby boy, Flynn, on May 28th. He weighed just 1lbs 6oz. "As we can imagine, Emma is heartbroken and although we can't take away her pain, we can help with funeral expenses to help give baby Flynn a perfect funeral."
According to The Huffington Post, Emma got to spend two days in the ward with her stillborn son. "All the midwifes were amazing," she said. "It just feels like a nightmare I can’t wake up from. My whole world has been ripped apart and I’m devastated.
"I’d be able to get my head around it a bit better if there had been something medically wrong, but he was perfectly healthy and for the first few hours after the crash I was told he was okay and I genuinely thought we were so lucky to both be surviving it."
In a Facebook post, she added: "Just knowing he's gone and I'm never going to see him open his eyes or cry or watch him take his first steps, nothing. His poor little body couldn't take the pain or stress from the horrific crash yesterday and there was nothing I could do to save him when my body was meant to keep him safe and up until late last night I thought it had. Rest in peace my beautiful baby boy."
Emma made the brave decision to share images of her sleeping son in the post and she's been inundated with messages of support from users far and wide who've been touched by her tragic story. One wrote: "I am so sorry! I can't say I know how it feels to lose a newborn, yet I had a miscarriage when I was 12 weeks along and it gutted me. The moment that pregnancy test comes back positive, that is the moment your life as a mother begins. And in that moment of seeing those two lines, you'd be willing to do anything for their lives. I am so proud of you for being so brave and I know that he will be watching out for you up above!"
Another added: "Hi your story came up on my news feed, from someone that has gone through the same thing I'm so sorry for your lost, their are no words anyone can say to you to make it better but over time it will get easier xx."
You can donate to the GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of Flynn's funeral here. "Anything raised over the cost of the funeral will be donated to the ward where I gave birth," Emma added.
